ICCROM Sharjah Award

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Governor of Sharjah, honors the rehabilitation project of houses and buildings surrounding the Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, Palestine, winner of the grand prize of the Akrom-Sharjah Award for Good Practices in Preserving and Protecting Heritage Trust In the Arab region, and in the picture the prize goes to Eng. Amal Abu Al-Hway And Engr. Bashar al-Husseini from Palestine. The jury chose this project due to its right approach aimed at positively impacting the families living in this area under constant threat from the occupation forces. This project shows, in particular, the power of heritage and its contribution to providing hope, and the positive impact it can cultivate in the face of cross-generational trauma. Also, his contribution in maintaining family buildings and connecting people to their properties and lands. . His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah honors the “Al Aqua rehabilitation of houses and buildings around al Aqsa Mosque” project in Palestine, the winner of the Grand Prize of the ICCROM-Sharjah Award for Good Practices in Cultural Heritage Conservation and Management in the Arab Region (2021-2022). In the photo, both engineer Amal Abuelhawa and engineer Bashar Al-Husseini from Palestine receive the award. The Jury selected this project for its systematic approach to a positive impact on the families living in this area under constant threat from occupying forces. This project in particular demonstrates the power of heritage to help heal those in pain and the positive effect heritage conservation can have on generational trauma and keeping family bonds strong and tied to their rightful property and land.
